Eastern troops free hostages from Bakan Haram .

In a series of operations, security forces from Vlesadwassa and Tikada (with some co-operation from Sahaelo) have had outstanding successes against Bakan Haram. Area of operations against Bakan Haram A most recent operation to free Sahaeloen hostages - being held in the Arukayi province of Vlesadwassa - eastern troops* attacked the Bakan Haram stronghold, overwhelmed the defenders and freed the hostages. The following photos – taken by a VINE** photographer, within the compound – give an indication of the course of the action. *eastern troops are some from an undisclosed origin. Sahaelo Civil War Update – dateline 1st November 1979

Forces loyal to the Sahaeloen Brigadier Arlwash Yadeeshas have valiantly fought for the town of Tairi against a large force of foreign mercenaries. The mercenaries are believed to have come from UmBongo, although this is yet to be confirmed. A reporter attached to Brigadier Arlwash's headquarters described the action: “ At 0635 (local time), the first mercenary armoured vehicle entered the western outskirts of Tairi, with it an attachment of heavily armed troops. Unbeknown to the defenders, a similar group was attacking and entering the town from the north. The 2 armoured groups met near the western boundary of the Sahaelo army compound. The Sahaeloen army troops desperately attempted to get out of their compound and respond to the invaders. The heavy fire from the mercenary's armoured vehicles took a toll on the defenders and their vehicles.
