SAHAELO CRISIS DEEPENS

With the continuing deterioration of the situation in Sahaelo, the government of Vlesadwassa has activated clauses of the Quatro Pact Treaty to ensure the sovereignty of its borders and stability of the local region, and Omovo is responding accordingly, as are the other member states of Umgawaland and Mdrongo.

The Ministry of Defence has released a combined statement with Foreign Ministry:
“Honouring our commitments to the Quatro Pact, we will be responding the Vlesadwassan request with the probable initial deployment of elements of the Airborne Brigade to secure a forward operating airbase near their North East border with Sahaelo. Heavier elements from 2 division and associated support elements will be moved by sea to one of the many entry ports that Vlesadwassa have made available to their allies. The sea lift will be escorted by a strong surface action force from the Navy, which will remain in the area to support Vlesadwassan Naval operations to ensure secure port access. The Omovan Air force will also be sending a multi-role air group to fulfil various combat and support roles.”

While at this stage there is no direct threat to Omovo, Permanent Forces and National Services Active Duty units have been put on a higher readiness level, National Services Part Time Duty forces and Reserve forces have not been activated. The Airborne Brigade and Air Force are now on alert status, to facilitate a short notice hostile airlift if required. As is usual, little is known about Special Operations Command’s actions at this time.

UMGAWALAND HISTORY 18th Century 1748 - Sir Humphrey Luxury-Yacht (late of Cholmondeley, Cheshire, England) of the East India Trading Company landed in Botungo Bay and established a trading outpost. Initial commodities for trade were bananas, coconuts, sugar and spices. 1750 - Because of population expansion at the EITC Botungo Bay trading post, a charter was granted to found a city and the name was changed to New Cholmondeley (in honour of Sir Humphrey's birth place). 1799 - The first coffee crop was planted, which would eventually lead to greater wealth generated in the colony. 19th Century 1808 - During the Napoleonic Wars, French privateers sought to wreak havoc on maritime trade along the eastern coast of Imagiafrica. One French ship, the "Blaireau en Colère", ran aground just south of New Cholmondeley. The crew was captured by the local militia. The French sailors must have enjoyed their captivity, describing it as "rather pleasant". Many stayed,...

Pihkáland Pilots Go Into Battle

Khenefrian aircraft recently tried to strike at the bridge over the Limpoko River in Duloc. Border tensions have simmered between the two counties after Duloc attacked and killed bandits hiding across the border with Me-262 fighter bombers. This led to retaliation when Khenefrian F-100 attacked and destroyed a passenger train in Duloc killing over fifty civilians. Not satisfied with this the Khenefrians have tried again. As the Khenefrian air force failed to keep their four F-100s serviceable they turned to China for support. The CCP supplied J-7s and J6 fighters and fighter bombers and also supplied the technical support to keep the planes in the air. Indeed some of the pilots that took part in the raid may have been Chinese instructors.   Luckily for Duloc two Pihkálander Skyhawks were training with two Duloc flown Drakens in the area. These air craft intercepted the raid and The Lieutenant Golmoko from the KP air force shot down two enemy fighter bombers. The now ace Capt...

F-100 fail

Grey Water recently sent a strong air contingent to support Ahmmesia in its ongoing conflict with Kalemnitka. The Kalemnitkan air force has been very active lately flying a Badger aircraft over Zeebia to join its armed forces. Now it has also sent Fiat G.91 reconnaissance planes, escorted by MiG-21s to photograph Ahmnesian positions near the border.   Two F100s and two F5As from the Grey Water intercepted these planes and a dog fight ensued. During the action a Kalemnitkan MiG-21 was damaged as was a Fiat G.91. However in return a F-100 was crippled, forcing the pilot to eject. An F-5A was also damaged.   Eight missiles were fired and none hit a target. Six failed to work properly and two missed completely. The F-100s seemed to have difficulty with their gun sights constantly missing well flown Fiats, even at close range.   Grey Water pilots have complained about the change to the new machines, preferring their old Skyhawks, especially after the success of the Pihk...
