Recently, the FAdY - Fuerzas Armadas de Yafwiya – launched a surprise attack on the Fuerte del camello vacío being used (if not held! by rebels from the Organización de la Independencia de Sajjad – O.I.Sajj).
Photo reconnaissance by FadY aircraft indicated that the nearby village of El camello vacío seemed to be held or, at least, sympathetic to the rebels. This revealed that fairly regular convoys were bringing supplies to the village and the fort. While most of these supplies were being brought to the fort, there seemed to be several storehouses in the village. From these, the local armed rebel groups were getting the supplies they needed to continue their war against the FAdY.
The nearby Rio justo provided a possible avenue (and eventually the one chosen) for the newly equipped FadY troops to launch their assault onto the fort and, maybe, the village.
The following is an account of the raid. The pictures have been supplied by the FAdY from their aerial reconnaissance.
The first series of photos show a convoy that is arriving in El camello vacío and Fuerte del camello vacío and is soon to be unloaded.
This second series of aerial photos show the trucks’ loads being unloaded. A close viewing of the fort shows clear evidence of the rebels doing the unloading
The above 2 pictures show the arrival of the FAdY assault force.
The rebels now decided that unloading the trucks was not as important as ‘repelling the invaders’.
Very soon the rebels began to take casualties.
The FAdY troops inexorably moved forward, despite their losses. The rebels seemed to be coming off far worse than the FAdY.
With a final quick rush, the FAdY secured the fort and not only captured ‘a number of rebels’ but also the supplies that the rebels had been unloading.
After the successful operation, a press release was released by the FAdY.
“One hundred terrorists were neutralized, about 20 captured, and several motorbikes and war equipment were seized during an operation by Yafwiyan regular army troops.”
Yafwiya and Tabazeze have both been struggling with the Sajjad who are trying to gain an independent, self-governing homeland. There is little doubt that this action was one in the continuing war between the Yafwiya and Tabazeze and the Sajjad.
Report compiled by Serge Ponce of AFP with the full co-operation of the FAdY - Fuerzas Armadas de Yafwiya – who supplied the aerial photographs.
